Family Fun in a Disney Submarine

by Francine Brokaw

The subs have returned to Disneyland. It's been nine years since they were taken out of service and left visitors with only their memories of the wonderful times they had in the "underwater" experience. Now the subs are back to focus on Finding Nemo. These bright yellow submarines take guests on a trip through Australian waters in search of the famous little clown fish.

Climb into the sub, sit back, relax and look out your window as the wonders of the deep blue sea unfold with all the colors and beauty the ocean has to offer. Disney has recreated all the beauty of the oceans with some additional fun – the characters from "Finding Nemo." You'll hear them talk and play as they swim through the currents in search of the little clown fish. Hey dude – Crush is there to provide some added elements, along with Marlin, Dory, and all the characters audiences have embraced.

The fleet of eight subs was redesigned for this new attraction and the subs are comfortable while providing great viewing for every passenger who sees and hears everything unfolding just outside of his/her window. The subs originally opened for passengers in the park in 1959 and closed in 1998. This year, their much anticipated return coincides with Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams." Once you settle in your seat, you'll enjoy over 12 minutes of underwater adventure with Nemo and his friends. This is worth standing in line for. You'll definitely get your money's worth on this ride.

Mickey and Minnie, dressed in their sailing attire, were on hand to welcome the subs back to service amid fanfare and a big kick-off party. This highly anticipated event brought people from around the world. Who but Disney – and Nemo – could command such attention for a ride?

The new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is now open! Enjoy your ride.
